Smart Art is heavily influenced by the paintings of Jeffrey Smart, an artist whose work portrays contemporary life through both realistic and absurd lenses. Photographer John Callahan aims to emulate Smart’s style through a different medium, setting up colourful but stark environments in which to capture his portraits. The result is a collection of work that is at once abstract and realistic, mesmerising in its bold use of colour and perspective.
About Artist
John Callahan is a “late starter” to photography, having purchased his first camera in the late seventies but only taking up serious photography in 2005. He loves to be creative in his photography and frames photos from a unique point of view, even to the point of abstraction.
