PEACHES AND SCREAM

Mixed media artist Karyn Fearnside presents Peaches and scream, an exhibition that stalks the edge of the familiar while also zeroing in on disturbing half-grasped terror hidden in the far recesses of the mind. Religion, death, pareidolia, wonder and mystery are all explored in these photographs, capturing the viewer in a web of possibilities. Using a cloth stained with the flesh of rotting peaches to create a connection to her mother who passed when she was a child, Fearnside’s series explores the closeness and distance separating the living from the dead, encapsulating a terrible beauty.

About Artist

Karyn Fearnside graduated from the Canberra School of Art, ANU in the late 1990s with first class honours in Textiles. She is a mixed media artist with photography playing an important part in her creative process, and has been a finalist in the Kennedy Art Prize and the Clifton’s Art Prize.
