Set in Japan post-2011’s Great East Earthquake, Tokyo is Yours is inspired by manga and film noir. Artist Meg Hewitt draws on fantasy and metaphor found in reality to create a fictional visual narrative exploring memory, fear, our relationship with the natural environment, disaster, love and loss. The work relies largely on viewer interpretation in order to form an independent narrative. Tokyo is Yours was recently exhibited at the esteemed Arles Festival and has recently been published as a book.
Born in Sydney, Meg Hewitt has been a finalist in the Lensculture awards, the Head On prize, the Moran Prize and the Maggie Diaz Prize, as well as receiving a silver medal from the Prix de la Photographie Paris. Tokyo Is Yours was recently exhibited during Arles Festival 2017.
